India donates 50 computers to the largest high school in Madagascar 

The Embassy of India set up a computer lab by donating 50 computers to the largest high school in Madagascar—Lycee Moderne, Ampefiloha, today. The computer lab was jointly inaugurated today by Hon’ble Minister of National Education of Madagascar , H.E. Marie Michelle Sahondrarimalala and Ambassador of India, Abhay Kumar.  
The donation was made following the announcements made by the President of India, H.E. Mr. Ram Nath Kovind during his state visit to Madagascar in 2018.

Addressing the audience at the inauguration ceremony, the Ambassador of India to Madagascar Shri Abhay Kumar said - “India-and Madagascar share warm and cordial relations. Strong people to people ties form the bedrock of bilateral relationship between the two countries and education is a major area of bilateral cooperation. The supply of 50 computers to the largest high school in Madagascar today will go a long way in strengthening digital learning in Madagascar.”

Continuing on the significance of the educational ties between India and Madagascar, Ambassador said: “India has been an attractive location for Malagasy students who wish to undertake higher studies. We  offer a number of scholarships to the students  under programmes of ITEC and ICCR.”

Speaking on the occasion the Hon’ble Minister of National Education said “ Ithank the Govt. of India for these new and sophisticated computers. It is very important for us as the students need technical skills.  This donation will lead us into a new era of development. This is the biggest gift ever given by any country to a school since my appointment as Minister of Education.”

The event was attended by members of local government, representatives of the Foreign Ministry of Madagascar, school administration, students of the Lycee Moderne Ampefiloha and the members of the media. 

Earlier India had donated 100,000 text books to Madagascar in 2020. Over 800 Malagasy professionals have received training in India under ITEC programme and about a 100 Malagasy students have availed ICCR scholarships so far. An MOU on online education is under finalisation between India and Madagascar.
