Celebrations of the 79th Independence Day, 15 August 2025


The celebrations of 79th Independence Day took place in Antananarivo in the morning of 15 August 2025, with patriotic fervour and zeal. Members of the Indian Diaspora and Friends of India in Madagascar enthusiastically took part in the celebrations.


2.        The event commenced with the hoisting of Tricolour by Ambassador Bandaru Wilsonbabu, who also read out the address of Hon’ble Rashtrapatiji Smt. Droupadi Murmu to the nation on the eve of the Independence Day.  This was followed by a vibrant performance of yoga and singing of patriotic songs by the Members of Indian Community and local students of Hindi. 


3.    In the afternoon, Ambassador Bandaru Wilsonbabu hosted a reception, which was graced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Madagascar H.E. Mrs. Rasata Rafaravavitafika, President of the Senate H.E. Mr. Richard Ravalomanana, Minister of Armed Forces Lt. Gen. Lala Monja Delphin Sahivelo, Minister of Public Security H.E. Mr. Herilala Rakotoarimanana, Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts H.E. Mrs. Viviane Dewa, Minister of Labour, Employment and Civil Service H.E. Mrs. Razakaboana Hanitra,  Minister of Population and Solidarity H.E. Mrs. Aurélie Razafinjato, State Secretary for Food Self-Sufficiency  Mrs. Razanamahefa Tahian'ny Avo Maminjatovo, Governor of Diana Region H.E. Mr. Taciano Rakotomanga and several other dignitaries.


4.     Ambassador spoke about the rapid economic transformation currently underway in India under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and also recalled the resounding success of India’s limited military campaign “Operation Sindoor” which symbolized the humanity's fight against the scourge of terrorism. Ambassador reaffirmed India’s commitment to share its developmental experience and expertise as per the needs and priorities of Madagascar, in line with Vision MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions).

 

5. Foreign Minister   H.E. Mrs.  Rasata Rafaravavitafika conveyed warm greetings on behalf of the President of Madagascar H.E. Mr. Andry Rajoelina to the Government and people of India on their Independence Day. She expressed her gratitude to the Government of India for assisting in the capacity building of the Malagasy officials in diverse fields.  Foreign Minister reaffirmed Madagascar’s commitment to further deepen its partnership with India, in the fields of capacity building, sustainable development, maritime security etc.


6.  The event concluded with colourful cultural performances by the Members of Indian Community and the local students of Hindi and Yoga. A special exhibition on the history of Indian National Flag was displayed on the occasion, as part of the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign.
