Holding of First Joint Agriculture Working Group between India and Madagascar, 8-9 February 2018

PRESS RELEASE 

The first meeting of the Joint Agriculture Working Group(JAWG) between India and Madagascar took place on 8-9 February 2018 in Antananarivo. The JAWG was the result of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Farmers Welfare of India and Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock on 29 February 2016 for cooperation in the field of Agriculture and Allied Sector. The Indian side was led by Dr. O.P. Chaudhary, Joint Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Fisheries and the Malagasy side was led by Mr Lucien Ranarivelo, Director General of Agriculture

2.        The meeting started with a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Henri Rabary-Njaka, Minister of Foreign Affairs. The delegation also called on H.E. Mr.E.RANDRIARIMANANA Harison, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock where the two sides discussed cooperation on a range of issues.

3.        During the JAWG the Malagasy side discussed possible collaboration in the field of agriculture development through irrigation, farm mechanization and food processing plant. The two sides discussed the modalities of Bromide and Phosphate Fumigation for agro exports of Madagascar to India.

4.        The Indian side conveyed its readiness to cooperate in Small Ruminants, Meat and Poultry sector including exchange of experts/study visits, training of technical persons. In addition, cooperation in the field of cattle development, seed sector and training of farmers there also discussed.

5.        During the second day the delegation visited the National Centre of the Applied Research for the Rural Development (FOFIFA), Higher School of Agronomy Science (ESSAGRO) and CGARD Technology Centre.

6.        The two sides agreed to take appropriate action on the decision points arrived at the meeting. The Indian side invited the Malagasy side for the next round of JAWG to be held in India in 2019.
