Celebrations of International Women's Day-2023

The International Women's Day-2023  was marked by the Embassy of India in Antananarivo on 7 March 2023.  The event was graced by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Mrs. Diamondra Razaivaovololoniaina, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons

Mrs. Tianalisoa Razanajatovo, Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Mrs. Fanja Raharinomena and other dignitaries from the Government as well as the Senate of Madagascar. It was also attended by  the ITEC/ICCR alumni and representatives of local media. 

Ambassador Bandaru Wilsonbabu spoke about the India's longstanding traditions of honoring women and celebrating their achievements. "Government of India has undertaken several initiatives to realize the vision of a “New India” where women are equal partners in the sustainable development of the country. As part of India’s ongoing G-20 presidency, we are focused on realizing Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of “Women-Led Development” to create a world of equality and equity where every woman lives with dignity and also gets an opportunity to transform her life. As a close neighbour in the Indian Ocean Region, India is willing to share the experiences of its transformational journey of women-led development, with Madagascar", Ambassador said.

In her speech, Secretary General of the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Mrs. Diamondra Razaivaovololoniaina mentioned about the steps taken by the Government of Madagascar to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women, as part of the Plan of Emergence of Madagascar. She suggested closer cooperation between  India and Madagascar on the issues of Women Empowerment  and Gender Equity.

The event saw Yoga and Indian dance performances  by ITEC/ICCR alumni  as well as the screening of a short video titled "The Indian Woman: An Indomitable Spirit".
