Celebrations of the 10th International Day of Yoga in Antananarivo

 1. The 10th International Day of Yoga with the theme "Yoga for Self and Society" was organized by the Embassy of India at the Alarobia Stadium in Antananarivo on 21 June 2024.

2. The event was graced by President of the Senate of Madagascar H.E. Mr. Richard Ravalomanana, Minister of Transport and Meteorology and Acting Minister of Youth and Sports H.E. Mr. Valery Ramonjavelo, Vice President of the National Assembly H.E. Mr. Jean Brunelle Razafintisandraofa and other Members of the National Assembly as well as the Chief of Staff to the PDS of Antananarivo. Around 400 members of India Community and Friends of India enthusiastically took part in the event. Special exhibitions on Yoga, Millets and Hindi Language were showcased on the sidelines of the event.

3.  In his speech, Minister of Transport and Meteorology and Acting Minister of Youth and Sports H.E. Mr. Valery Ramonjavelo, said that today’s celebrations of International Day of Yoga go beyond physical and mental exercises and open the doors for collaboration between the people of India and Madagascar. Ambassador Bandaru Wilsonbabu noted that after adoption of a resolution by the United Nations General Assembly declaring 21st June as “International Day of Yoga” in 2024, all nations and cultures across the world have embraced yoga for holistic well-being. He thanked the Government of Madagascar for its support for promotion of yoga across the country and encouraged the people of Madagascar to take advantage of the free Yoga classes conducted every day at the Embassy.

4. As a close neighbour and a fellow developing country in the Indian Ocean Region, India desires to see the emergence of Madagascar as a thriving nation and stands ready to share its developmental experience and expertise, as per the needs and requirements of Madagascar, in line with Vision SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) and the ancient Indian philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (Whole Earth is One Family).
