Celebrations of the 74th Republic Day of India in Antananarivo

The 74th Republic Day of India was celebrated  with patriotic fervor by the Members of Indian Diaspora as well as Friends of India in Antananarivo  today. 

2. The celebrations began with the unfurling of the Tricolor by Ambassador Bandaru Wilsonbabu. Thereafter, Ambassador read out the address of Hon'ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu on the occasion. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation by the Indian community in Madagascar. It also saw cultural performances by local students of Hindi and Yoga as well as representatives of the Indian community.

3. Ambassador also hosted a reception on the occasion at the Embassy Residence. Acting Foreign Minister and Minister of National Defence of Madagascar H.E. Lt. Gen. Leon Jean Richard Rakotonirina, President of the Senate H.E. Mr. Herimanana Razafimahefa, Ministers of Public Health, Tourism, Handicrafts graced the reception. It also saw participation by the representatives of the Malagasy Government, Diplomatic Corps, Business Community as well as  local media. The celebrations also witnessed enthralling  performances by members of ITEC alumni and Malagasy artists. 

4. In his speech, Ambassador highlighted the growing India-Madagascar partnership in various fields, subsequent to the historic visit of the then President of India H.E. Mr. Ram Nath Kovind to Antananarivo in 2018. He reiterated India's commitment to be a reliable partner in the developmental journey of Madagascar. 

5. In his address, Acting Foreign Minister and Minister of National Defence of Madagascar H.E. Lt. Gen. Leon Jean Richard Rakotonirina said that more than 62 years of diplomatic relations and about 4 centuries of trade relations unite India and Madagascar. He added that the relationship of mutual respect makes India an important partner for Madagascar in the Indian Ocean region. On behalf of the Government and the people of Madagascar,  the Acting Foreign Minister conveyed warm wishes for the health and prosperity of the people of India.
