Visit of the Ships of First Training Squadron to Antsiranana (Madagascar), 20-23 March 2023

As a symbol of India-Madagascar friendship, two ships of the First Training Squadron (ITS) of the Indian Navy (INS TIR and ICGS SARATHI) made a Port call to Antsiranana (Madagascar) from 20-23 March 2023. 

Ambassador and the Commanding officers of the ships called on Governor of Diana region Mr. Taciano Rakotomanga. Governor and other Malagasy dignitaries as well as representatives of Indian community attended the reception hosted onboard INS TIR and ICGS SARATHI on 20 March 2023. The ships were open for local visitors on 21-22 March 2023 and received more than 2000 visitors. A yoga session organized in Antsiranana during the visit of the ships, witnessed enthusiastic participation by Malagasy dignitaries as well as members of the Indian diaspora in Diana region. 

During the stay at Antsiranana, the ships undertook various training activities with Malagasy Navy which included Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defence (NBCD), Fire Fighting, Weapon Handling and Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS). Friendly Volleyball and Basketball matches were also conducted. 

The visit of the ships of ITS to Antsiranana has further enhanced the traditionally close ties between India and Madagascar. India will remain a reliable and committed developmental partner for Madagascar, in line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Vision of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region).
