CELEBRATION OF ‘GUJARAT GAURAV DIVAS’ BY EMBASSY OF INDIA, ANTANANARIVO
A celebration of ‘Gujarat Gaurav Divas 2026’ was organized by the Embassy of India, Antananarivo in association with the Department of Tourism, Government of Gujarat on Saturday, 9 May 2026 to commemorate the creation of the state of Gujarat in India in May 1960. The event witnessed widespread and enthusiastic participation of the members of local Indian diaspora in Madagascar. In his introductory addressed, Shri Mohit Kumar, Charge d’ Affaires emphasized the contribution of the Indian community to the alround development of Madagascar, while the community members have preserved and nurtured the age-old Indian culture, traditions and values in the day-to-day life. The leaders of Indian community also affirmed their trust and alignment with the spirit of ‘Vibrant Gujarat’ and also to the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’.
On behalf of the Department of Tourism, State Government of Gujarat, a tourism promotion video on the state of Gujarat was displayed during the event, which was hugely appreciated, followed by a special video on medical tourism in the state of Gujarat.
The cultural segment of the celebration included dance performances by Yoga and Hindi students of the Embassy of India, performances by the members of Gujarat Hindu Samaj, and a musical rendition of Gujarati somgs by a local Malagasy band. The event was attended by more than 200 members of Indian diaspora from the Hindu Samaj, Dawoodi Bohras, Khoja and Ismaeli communities. A few promotional stalls aimed at showcasing and promotion of ethnic Gujarati cuisine, and higher educational opportunities in the state of Gujarat for the local students were also put up by the Embassy India during the event.
