Ambassador's speech on the occasion of the Indian Vice-President visit to Comoros

Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Shri Ram Vichar Netam and other distinguished members on the dais, Ladies and Gentlemen.

It is my privilege to welcome Shri Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Vice President of India to the perfumed islands of Comoros.

Hon’ble Vice President is well known to all of us.  We have all heard about his great interest in Agriculture, Rural Development, his elevated political thinking and his inspiring speeches. I would like to say a few words about his life and his long years in public service.

He was born on 1 July 1949 in Chavatapalem, Distt.  Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. He started his public life at a very young age as student activist. He became a legislator in the state Assembly in Andhra Pradesh and was elected to the Parliament in April 1998. He has served as Cabinet Minister in several key portfolios of Urban Development, Parliamentary Affairs, Rural Development, Information and Broadcasting. He became the 13th Vice President of India in August 2017.  Honourable Vice President also served as National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party from 2002 to 2004 and was chairman of many important Parliament Committees.  He has authored articles in newspapers on the subjects of political and public interests, and published books such as ‘Moving on...Moving forward: A Year in Office’, ‘Selected Speeches of Venkaiah Naidu : Volume 1’ and ‘Listening, Learning and Leading’.. A chronicle of the Vice President of India’s two Years in office.

Hon’ble Vice President has created history today by becoming the first high political dignitary from the India to ever visit the Union of Comoros. Hon’ble Vice President was warmly received upon his arrival in Comoros by the President His Excellency Azali Assoumani at the airport, which reflects his warmth and love for India. Tomorrow Honourable Vice President will have delegation level talks and one to one meeting with President. 

         In a rare honour bestowed upon him, he has also been invited to address the Comorian Parliament, which also shows the place of pride for India in the heart of Comorian people.

Today, the Indian community feels highly honoured by the visit of Hon’ble Vice President of India. On behalf of the Embassy of India in Madagascar and Comoros and on behalf of the Indian community in Comoros, I welcome the Honourable Vice President in Comoros, and invite him to address the gathering.
