Ambassador’s Remarks at the Special Yoga Session

(Mahajanga, 16 May 2024)

Prefect of Mahajanga

The PDS of Mahajanga and Secretary General of Boeny Region,

Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Namaskar, Salama, Good Morning! It is my pleasure to visit beautiful and vibrant Mahajanga, a city with long-standing cultural and people-to-people ties with India. I would like to express my gratitude to the Governor of Boeny Region, the Prefect, the PDS of Mahajanga and other dignitaries for their support for today’s special Yoga session, in the run up to the International Day of Yoga-2024.

Yoga is an ancient Indian holistic wellness practice, with a focus on the unity of body and soul. You might be aware that the United Nations General Assembly had adopted a resolution in 2014, deciding to celebrate 21 June as the International Day of Yoga every year. I would like to thank the Government of Madagascar for supporting celebrations of International Day of Yoga in Antananarivo and other cities of Madagascar over the past ten years. I take this opportunity to encourage the people of Madagascar to benefit from the free Yoga classes conducted every day at the Embassy.

In conclusion, I would like to highlight that India with its rich history and cultural diversity is among the top tourist destinations of the world. With its quality and affordable medical care, India is also becoming a favored destination for medical and wellness tourism. You might be aware that more than 27 million tourists from India had visited foreign countries last year. I am confident that today's special Yoga session in the beautiful and pristine beach of Mahajanga will promote greater tourism flows between India and Boeny Region in the days to come. I once again thank you for joining us in today’s special Yoga session.
