Festival of India opens in Madagascar

The first ever Festival of India opened in Antananarivo, the Capital city of Madagascar on September 24, 2015. The opening ceremony of the festival sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India and implemented by Sangeet Natak Akademy was held at Hotel Carlton, Antananarivo. The festival was opened in a traditional Indian way with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest Ms. Brigitte Rabemanantsoa Rasamoelina, Minister of Culture, Govt. of Madagascar and HE Mr Chandra Ballabh Thapliyal, Ambassador of India to Madagascar and Comoros. Several Ministers of the Malagasy Govt., senior officers in the Govt.,  Members of the Diplomatic Corps, members of Indian diaspora and Malagasy public witnessed the cultural extravaganza presented by the ‘’Nrityaroopa dance troupe’’crafted under the artistic direction of Sangeet Natak Akademy of India. The Festival spanning over around two months will showcase Bhangra Dance, Mehndi Art, Food Festival and Gujarati Folk Dances.
