The 69th anniversary of India’s Independence was celebrated in Madagascar on 15 August, 2016 with great fervour and joy. The flag hoisting ceremony was held at 0900hrs at India House in Antananarivo following which the Ambassador of India read out the President of India’s message to the Nation on the eve of the Independence Day, to the assembled members of Indian community and Friends of India. Individuals and families, representing various cross sections of the Indian diaspora present in Antananarivo, ITEC Alumni, Malagasy and a few members of other nationalities participated at the function. Representatives of the Daudi Bohra Community, Sunni Community, ITEC Alumni Association, Missionaries of charity spoke about the sacrifices made by India’s freedom fighters and leaders who had greatly contributed to India’s freedom movement. A short cultural programme was presented by Miss Kavya Arora, Aishwarya Arora, Shruti Jagul, Kabin Jagul and Chaitanya Arora. A Patriotic song was sung by one of the members of the Indian Community. The programme ended with the serving of the homemade snacks.
